Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry kids who would grow together eventually, learned very early on how to conquer of the difficulties she faced through her vibrant and imaginative imagination. Before she learned to read and write she was making up her own music. Her first guitar purchase came at age 8 and began singing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. After graduating high school in 1964 she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart at the top of Monument Records. Porter Wagoner began looking for female singers to join his syndicated television program at around the same at the same time. Parton accepted the job in 1967 signed to RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of in the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. However, it wasn't until 1974 that she opted to walk away from Wagoner's program as the popularity of her own solo records such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors, and Jolene exceeded their collective efforts.
