Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop music which not only brought attention to Latin music but also reggaeton. In 2015, there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages to Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. But a newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the evolution and development of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms and others into his music.
